On March 24, 2021, the Viking Executive Committee adopted a new policy for the storage of personal gear in the Viking club room at Jericho Sailing Centre, which reads as follows:
Viking Sailing Club Club Room Personal Gear Storage Policy
Given that space in the Viking club room is limited and must be prioritized for the storage and use of club property, members of the Viking Sailing Club are informed of the following:
- Members store gear in the Viking club room at their own risk. The Viking Sailing Club does not assume any responsibility for the security of personal gear stored anywhere in the club room.
- Storage of personal gear is limited to rented lockers and a limited space in kitchen area reserved for storing wet suits, personal flotation devices (PFDs), and sailing booties.
- Storage in lockers and kitchen area is reserved only for Active Members as defined by Viking bylaws. Lapsed members must remove their personal property from the club room immediately. Lockers must be paid for before use.
- Gear left behind by lapsed members will be considered to be abandoned. It will be removed from common areas and disposed of if not claimed within six months.
- As of May 15th, 2021*, all personal gear stored in common areas of the Viking Sailing Club must be clearly labeled with the member’s name. It is preferable to label the items themselves and any hangers used to store them. (*Commodore’s note: this deadline is waived until further notice. A new deadline will be established and communicated once covid restrictions can be loosened a little more).
- Gear that is not labeled with a current member’s name may be considered to be abandoned, removed from common areas, and disposed of if not claimed within six months. For 2021, members will have a grace period until June 15th, 2021*, to ensure their gear is properly labeled, after which unlabeled gear will be removed from common areas and disposed of after six months. (*see note on item 5 — new deadline will be established)
- Unclaimed gear from previous years can be disposed of immediately at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
